Try this Urban Winery in North Carolina

We recently visited a great urban winery in Davidson, North Carolina (North of Charlotte). It’s located in the historic business district in a space that used to be an organ making shop. The esthetics of the space are beautiful from the deep blues to the gold and butter accents. It even showcases gold organ pipes behind the bar.

The Owner & The Wines

The Davidson Wine Co. is owned by Lindsey Williams. She is a lawyer who found a love of wine later in life. She sources the grapes from around the world to produce varietals such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Barolo, Gewurztraminers, Pinotage, Petit Verdot, and Port.

You will find a variety of brands offered alongside the Davidson Wine Co wines. They have a predetermined tasting flight each day or you can order by the glass or bottle. They even have a Bistro menu with some tasty options.

We ordered the tasting flight because we wanted to try her wines. The flight includes four wines, but only one of them was a Davidson Wine Co wine. We wish there was a Davidson only wine flight to truly experience her wines. So, don’t expect this to be a typical wine tasting room where all the bottles are open and ready for a tasting line up of your choice. This is a more refined approach to encourage you to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere, the wine, the food, and your companions. They did a really nice job with social distancing and even have an outdoor patio in the back.

The Wine Tasting

Let’s dig into the nitty gritty of the tasting. It started with the Gran Gesta Cava from Catalonia, Spain. It had a nice fresh quality with apple and pineapple notes. The next was the Mile Post Pinot Gris from Willamette Valley, Oregon. This white wine had high acidity along with flavors of pears, honeysuckle, and peaches.

The next two were red wines, one from Davidson Wine Co using grapes from Australia and the other a Tempranillo from Spain. While these two wines were made from different grapes, they still provided a nice comparison allowing you to evaluate the quality of the Davidson Wine which was really quite nice. The Davidson Wine is labeled GSM Down Under and is made from Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre grapes grown in Australia. This was a fruity red wine with dark red berry flavors and bright acidity. The last wine was El Jefe Tempranillo. This was a big bold juicy red wine that is unoaked. It has red berry and plum flavors.

The Wine Tasting Wrap Up

This was a wonderful experience. If you find yourself in Davidson, North Carolina, definitely take the time to check out this Urban Winery. Lindsey is making some really great wine and she’s created a lovely spot in which to enjoy it. Cheers!
